What do you really know about Jamaica?Thursday Jan 14, 2010
What do you really know about Jamaica? To answer that myself, I never gave Jamaica much credence other than watching the John Candy movie ‘Cool Runnings’ and not really knowing where Jamaica was (Is that a throw back?). You probably only know that it’s an island, it’s in the Caribbean, and it’s warm. That’s why you want to have your spring break Jamaica experience, right? Me being me, I like to know a little about where I’m going: geography, famous history, gross domestic product, etc. Here’s some information that you may be able to use to astound your friends on your spring break Jamaica excursion.
Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean. I guess that makes it easier to track down Mr. Sparrow. Originally, it was colonized by the Spanish, but later taken over by the British and is the third largest Anglophone country in North America. That means you’re golden going there and speaking English if you didn’t catch that. Are they independent? Not when they have a royal motto that starts with ‘God’ and ends with ‘Queen’. It is also home to the Blue Mountains.
This one is short, but with that little bit of knowledge ammo in your holster, you can, again, astound your spring break friends or that little beach bunny. Like they knew any of that to begin with anyway…
